There's a part of the event that's quite special to the French, a Tour de France tradition of sorts: "la Caravane Publicitaire," (the Publicity Caravan) a chance for Tour sponsors and partners to promote their products and services... a chance for the public to cheer on heavily decorated (and branded!) "floats" and to get rewarded with (flying) goodies and gifts. This is great entertainment, and an especially fun time during an exciting day before the race starts!
