This video is shared to show the amazing talents and care and duty that goes into harvesting a whale and how the community joins in to help and how fish and wildlife play an integral part as well. Everything is carefully noted and documented. It is a very meticulous project for every whale that is brought in and an incredibly lengthy process as well. Just one whale can take an entire day and into the wee hours to process and everyone must stay to help cut and to measure and get it all done. And they don't leave until it is all done. it is a major process and undertaking and one they take very seriously. I have noticed they are very grateful and thankful for the bounty they receive and none of the whale ever goes to waste. What an amazing event to witness. Truly a blessing for all involved. 320 miles north of the arctic circle lies the most northern city in the United States, the 11th most northern public community in the world and the small rural northern Alaska city known as Barrow. This northern Alaska area is home to the Inuit people who have subsistence hunted the bowhead whale as a large part of their diet for hundreds of years. I was blessed to be able to be there when they caught 3 whales in one day. They are a generous community and sharing is a value they greatly believe in. The whales harvested here will be shared with the community and no one will go hungry. In fact it will most likely be shared with the neighboring villages as well.
