Which one do you prefer and why? Make sure to comment below! On of the advantages of flying short haul is that you are able to do a lot of take offs and landings. Almost all landings are done flying without auto pilot and you as the pilot have the option to actually fly the airplane if you want to. You will make around 3 or 4 landings a day which makes you experienced in landings in a relatively short time. The disadvantages of flying short haul is that, in order to gain some hours, you need to do a lot of effort. A lot of time on the ground where in some company’s you don’t even get payed for and a lot of paperwork. I remember for example when I was based in Barcelona, that I had every day Ibiza on my schedule together with Vigo, Santiago or Santander. On a day like that, Ibiza back and forth is 1 hour flight time total, and Santiago 2 hours. It means you gained 3 hours of flight time while your actual duty is easily 10 hours. In the end of the day, you get back ‘’home’’ and you have seen nothing else than airports. So, the short haul is in particular really good if you want to gain some valuable experience as you make a lot of legs and landings. Apart from that, it is the best option if you want to manually fly and land the airplane.
