This Merida TotalEV ebike was fairly popular a decade ago when ebikes came on the scene. Featuring an innovative pedelec system, which was basically a torque sensor, allowed the rider to add power on every stroke to made a very natural feel. Nowadays, these bikes can still be found, usually in non-working condition due to aging electronics. Since the mid-motor setup was custom fabricated to the frame, this makes it fairly difficult to repair. Especially since the power plant is an older 24V 250W brushed motor design, there's not much point. Accepting, what I originally thought was a fairly straightforward challenge, I embarked on a 7 month journey to repair this bike from start to finish. The season changes from spring in the beginning of the video to fall, thus bypassing most of the good riding season in Toronto for 2021. :)
