The 911 emergency response system is designed to provide help in the event of a true emergency. Sometimes it’s difficult to determine if a call for help justifies the use of police and fire resources to help. However disobedient children that don’t want to go to school or listen to parents and caretakers are certainly NOT an example of that. Surprisingly, a leading examples of people calling 911 for non-emergencies were parents calling 911 for assistance in disciplining their children (i.e. Officer, make my child go to school, they won’t listen to me). Police and Firefighters are there to help, not to intimidate. The Lakeland Police Department and the Lakeland Fire Department are always there for you when you need them most, but remember KEEP 911 FOR EMERGENCIES!
