In this episode of Dirtcheapdaily, Aaron converts his 2004 Subaru Legacy Outback to rear wheel drive! This isn't just another welded center differential. This is a full on rear wheel drive conversion utilizing a Toyota R series RWD truck transmission. The R150 we used came out of a 2 wheel drive 1997 Toyota T100. It is similar to a R154 which was the 5-speed manual transmission that came in the Mark IV Toyota Supra. The gearing is setup differently, but overall it is similarly robust. The main difference between a R150 and R154 is the price point. R150's can be found in most junkyards for around $100 whereas the R154 is heavily sought after and range in price from $1000-$4000. The Bellhousing adapter adapts the Toyota W series and R series transmissions to the Subaru EJ engines. This also means that it can adapt them to the EZ engine which has a similar bolt pattern! This part of the build was really fulfilling as it truly changed this Subie into a RWD wagon.
