**For more behind-the-scenes content and to support the channel:   / hwdesigns   ** If you've missed my last few uploads - we're in WV now on a long pit stop between Congo and our next post Denver, CO. I've been using the beauty and bounty of green wood and firewood to get inspired to make stuff after leaving my entire shop behind in DRC. More to the story: I sold my shop:    • I sold my entire wood shop | HW|adven...   In this clip, I try my hand at spoon carving. All in all, happy with the first attempt; but think I need to spend some quality time with my sharpening strop. I hope you enjoy! Let’s get into it. I started by marking my desired blank. Then split it away from the rest of the fire wood. And planed either side of the blank smooth Then drew the outline of my spoon And used a pull saw to remove the excess - I couldnt find my hatchet. With the rough shape, i took to hook knifing the bowl of spoon. Slowly chipping away a nice indent. Found my hatchet and cleared a little more waste before turning to the draw knife and carving knife combo of getting the spoon into shape. Working slowly, and adapting the cuts as I went, I spent the day slowly forming the shape of the spoon. With the spoon in pretty good shape, I smoothed the surface with sandpaper. Starting at a lower grit and moving higher. Once smooth, it was time for finish. I selected a food safe danish oil to seal the spoon And that’s a wrap! Next time, we hit the road, make it to colorado - and while we house hunt, I use some free time to restore my great grandfather’s tool box.
