Jackson And The Beasts - BrainStormAcres Off Grid Homestead introduces our friend Jackson to some of the beastly plant life on our High Altitude Northern Arizona Homestead. Gardening is a big piece of our preparedness strategy. We forage for native foods as they come into season: prickly pear, banana yucca, ground cherries, pinon nuts are just a few that we gather when the crops are adequate. Organic gardening is our long-time preferred method to raise vegetables. Both of us love fresh veggies, but local produce is often lacking - especially at the super markets. Living off grid is an infrastructure challenge. The work in our area is hard - digging through caliche and setting conduit. Jackson was a tremendous help as we made more of our infrastructure permanent.
