Rubrics of Mind - EGOTISM | HAUGHTY | CONTEMPTUOUS | INSOLENT (Homeopathic Repertory) rubric hunting

We all know the value and importance of mental symptoms or mental generals in homoeopathic prescriptions. So, it becomes very essential to interpret and pick the right rubric for a successful prescription. Today, let’s discuss four important rubrics Egotism, Haughty, Contemptuous and Insolent, these rubrics seem to be very similar, but practically they are different also they indicate a different set of medicines though we may get some common medicines in all these. In this video, we will discuss how these rubrics are different from each other and how can we pick these rubrics from observation and the patient’s language. Towards the end of the video, we will discuss a practical example for a better understanding of these rubrics. Coming to the Rubric Egotism Here the patient or person thinks only about himself, considering he is better and more important than other people. We can mark and feel the love for themselves easily in these people. Here they have an inflated opinion of their personal features and importance. They may tell I am this, I am that, I did this, these are my achievements etc. But mind it, there will be no arrogance When egotism added with arrogance It gives rise to another rubric Haughty Haughty people have the feeling of superiority of self over others and there will be arrogance but they don’t misbehave others. They just want to show their importance and superiority but often arrogantly For example, they sit in front of us like a king, maybe with leaning back on the chair or with hand crossed on chest, one or both arms raised upward and backwards or sitting with one leg on other and answering very confidently, smiling proudly often with one angle of mouth pulling to a side etc. But here we have to keep in mind that they may be arrogant but may not misbehave with others. If we will add Haughty with misbehaviour or lack of respect, then it will lead to another rubric Contemptuous. Contemptuous people along with the feeling of self-ego and superiority may misbehave with others showing a lack of respect. They may cast down someone very easily to show their superiority. Insolence is a more disapproving version of contemptuous. Here not only they misbehave someone but also react very rudely and insult him irrespective of age, seniority or honour; or they insult someone whom he should respect. If someone misbehaving and scolding parents or elders in front of the doctor then immediately we can think of this rubric. Here, they insult someone not due to anger but due to ego. Let's discuss one example If a patient tells frequently, during case taking, that ‘I was a police officer, I was posted in Naxalite areas, I did many good works there etc, etc if he mentions once or twice it is ok if he repeatedly emphasizes on this then we can consider the rubric Egotism. Along with this, if he continues to tell that “the works, I did, nobody except me might have accomplished’ “I am the only person who handled the difficult works smoothly”, along with this, if we are observing some signs of arrogance in his behaviour and posture, then we can consider the rubric Haughty. Further, if he tells, “I can go to any doctor in the city but I wanted to give you a chance, I know you are quite Young also have little experience but as I am staying nearby thought to visit you’ then we can go for Contemptuous. If the same person scolds his elder brother in front of us, we can go for the rubric Insolence.
