The 2nd annual Culture Connect is an event dedicated to embracing and celebrating diversity's beauty and recognizing culture's significance. It serves as a platform that brings together various community groups and organizations from the Ottawa Valley region, fostering an environment for learning, social interaction, and enjoyment. The primary objective of Culture Connect is to promote cultural awareness and understanding among participants. By showcasing a wide range of cultural practices, traditions, and perspectives, the initiative aims to highlight the richness and value that diversity brings to our society. Through this celebration, participants can engage with different cultural communities, learn about their unique customs and beliefs, and foster connections that promote inclusivity and harmony. This year, to delve deeper into the multifaceted nature of culture, Culture Connect organizers posed the question, "What does culture mean to you?" to the event participants. This inquiry is intended to spark insightful discussions and encourage individuals to reflect on their own experiences, heritage, and identities in relation to culture. By exploring this diverse range of perspectives, attendees can better understand the complex tapestry that makes up our collective cultural fabric. The responses to this question offer a glimpse into the myriad dimensions of culture that exist within our communities. By encouraging participants to articulate their perspectives on culture, Culture Connect aims to foster a deeper appreciation and respect for the diverse cultural backgrounds within the Ottawa Valley community. Open dialogue allows attendees to broaden their horizons, challenge assumptions, and develop a more inclusive and accepting outlook. The Local Immigration Partnership aims to strengthen the role of local communities across Lanark and Renfrew Counties in integrating and serving our newcomer population. Local Immigration Partnerships (LIP) are funded by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a department of the government of Canada, and support communities in bringing together service providers, settlement agencies, community groups, employers and other key municipal organizations to create a welcoming and inclusive community for newcomers. In Lanark and Renfrew Counties, the work of Local Immigration Partnerships is administered by Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. To enable this work to happen, LIP staff conduct research to identify challenges that are preventing newcomers from fully participating in the economic, social, cultural and recreational life of the community. The LIP team also identifies new opportunities with the goal of helping newcomers settle in rural areas. Learn more by visiting our website, https://liplanarkrenfrew.ca/
