The President (directed by acclaimed international filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf) tells a timeless story of a dictator forced to come face to face with the countless people brutalized by his regime after his government is overthrown. The President and his family rule the land with a draconian fist, enjoying a privileged and luxurious existence at the expense of his miserable and oppressed subjects. After a sweeping coup d’état uproots his position of power, the President’s wife and daughters are flown out of the country as he stays behind with his grandson, who is too young to grasp the unfolding events. After their personal escort and bodyguards turn on them, the pair are forced to trade their dressy uniforms for lice-infested rags and flee into the countryside. The President soon learns that he is now the country’s most wanted fugitive and begins a perilous journey with his young ally towards the coast to an awaiting ship that will take them to safety. Attempting to pose as a street musician and blending in with a band of haggard political prisoners just released from jail, The President relies upon long dormant survival skills to keep his grandson safe as a bloodthirsty mob follows their every step. Starring Mikheil Gomiashvili as The President, Dachi Orvelashvili as The Grandson, Eka Kakhiani as the President’s wife, and Nuki Koshkelishvili and Elene Bezarashvili as the President’s daughters.
