Lake Tahoe and the Fifth Corner of California

Recently we've traveled to the four corners of California, but according to the late Huell Howser, host of California's Gold, California has a fifth corner, where the state line makes an abrupt turn in the middle of Lake Tahoe. After a quick stop in Verdi, California to see where the survey that set California's state line began, we traveled south to Lake Tahoe. As we traveled around Lake Tahoe to get closer to the corner in the state line, we explored the area and talked about the history of California's boundary and the decisions that led to it being where it is, in the middle of the lake. Along the way we visited Eagle Rock, the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, the Tallac Historic Estates, and the state line on both sides of the lake. We then decided to see if we could get even closer to the corner, heading out onto the lake itself.
