The Election Commission has removed Rashmi Shukla, the Director General of Police (DGP) in Maharashtra, following allegations from the Congress party claiming a "clear bias" against the opposition. The party previously accused the senior IPS officer of illegal phone tapping in a letter last month. The Election Commission directed the state's Chief Secretary to transfer Shukla's responsibilities to the next senior-most IPS officer in the Maharashtra cadre. Additionally, the Chief Secretary was instructed to submit a panel of three IPS officers for the DGP appointment by Tuesday afternoon.
