“MESSENGER (A Fanfare for the Coming Day)” (2021) by Jared Beu performed by the Meadows Wind Ensemble (Jack Delaney, conductor) Friday, September 23, 2022. Featuring Brandon Aguillon, solo horn. Program Notes: MESSENGER was a NASA spacecraft that humans sent to study the planet Mercury, a planet where the days are longer than its year. This piece is inspired by MESSENGER’s seven-year journey through the solar system against the backdrop of the stars, patiently waiting for its arrival and the coming day. MESSENGER (A Fanfare for the Coming Day) was written for and is dedicated to Jack Delaney and the Meadows Wind Ensemble with heart-felt gratitude in recognition of their passion and resilience at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in celebration of what we collectively overcame.
