Citizens at the heart of Local Democracy

This video gives a brief overview of the Council of Europe activities in local and regional democracy for Europe, such as capacity-building, local government reform and its important role in networking governments and local authorities with a view to delivering good governance at local and regional levels.. It is based on a collection of interviews carried out by the Council of Europe at the Colloquy "Citizens at the Heart of Innovation at Local Level" in Bordeaux, 24-25 June 2010, jointly organised by the Council of Europe, the City of Bordeaux and the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (France). Among those interviewed is the Mayor of Bordeaux and French Minister of Foreign Affairs (since 28 February 2011), Alain Juppé. Other interviewees include: Richard Kemp, Deputy Chair Local Government Association, UK; Kjell-Tjorgeir Skjetne, Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities; Robert Herrmann, first deputy mayor of Strasbourg, France; David Carassus, University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour, France and Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Secretary of State for Digital Development, France (since November 2010 Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing of France).
