Cabbage grows best in temperate conditions with plenty of moisture. They are well suited to my climate and I water when it’s dry. See the amazing results you can achieve when you have moisture, mildness and no dig soil with compost mulch. Homeacres no dig garden is near the Atlantic Ocean at 51° north. Summer temperatures averaged 20 to 21°C, around 70°F and winter daytime temperatures are around 8°C, 2°C by night (mid-forties to mid-thirties F) with occasional frosts. Rainfall averages 80mm, 3.2 inches per month. 1 Mermaids Tale sown 8th May planted 7th June, now coming ready, nice open pollinated variation 2 Stanton F1 same dates, Tundra type for harvest late autumn probably, hybrid vigour and uniformity 3 Red cabbage Klimaro F1 larger and redder, and Granat open pollinated. All sown 8th May but planted 18th June 4 Balkan (Bulgarian) cabbage sown 26th April planted 13th May, now ready and large. Also, see the caterpillars! 5 Stonehead F1 sown 7th June planted 4th July, for smaller heads late autumn and to store, spaced closer 15-18in instead of 18-20in 6 Wintessa F1 Savoy, sown 23rd June planted 22nd July and with mesh still over.
