Hrad Hukvaldy leží na pretiahnutom kopci, 150 metrov nad rovnomennou obcou, známou predovšetkým ako rodisko svetovo presláveného hudobného skladateľa Leoša Janáčka. Okrem prehliadky hradu a odbory, ktorá je prístupná na rozdiel od hradu celoročne, je možné navštíviť Pamätník skladateľa v Podoborí. Hrad Hukvaldy je jedným z najväčších hradov na Morave. Na kopci nad obcou Hukvaldy, uprostred obory plnej danielov a muflónov sa týči z diaľky viditeľné, rozsiahle hradné opevnenie hradu. Z jeho veže je krásna vyhliadka do šíreho okolia na hrebene Beskýd, mestečko Kopřivnici, Příbor a cez Fryčovice až k Ostrave. Novo sú od októbra 2023 prístupné priestory renesančného paláca. Prvé zmienky o hukvaldskom hrade pochádzajú z roku 1285, jeho počiatky siahajú asi do polovice 13. storočia. Za zakladateľa Hukvald sú považované nemecké grófy z Hückeswagen. Prvý z nich, rytier Arnold z Hückeswagen, prišiel do českých krajín na pozvanie českého kráľa Přemysla Otakara I., aby tu sprostredkoval sobáš Přemyslovej dcéry Anežky s anglickým kráľom Henrichom III. K svadbe nakoniec síce nedošlo, avšak Arnold už v diplomatických službách českého panovníka zostal a dostal od neho územie na severovýchode Moravy. A práve tu zrejme až niekto z Arnoldových potomkov založil niekedy po roku 1250 hrad Hukvaldy. Najzachovalejším objektom na hrade je kaplnka sv. Ondreja, vybudovaná na konci 17. storočia. Kaplnka bola jediným objektom na hrade, ktorý bol v 19. storočí obnovený a udržiavaný. Je zasvätená patrónu tunajšieho kraja sv. Ondreji. V kaplnke je výborná akustika a preto sa tu konajú najrôznejšie koncerty a vystúpenia. Tie sú organizované aj v tzv. guľatine alebo motte, čo je vlastne predsunuté opevnenie, postavené zrejme niekedy v priebehu 15. storočia. V minulosti tu sídlila vojenská posádka a tiež sa tu nachádzalo poddanské väzenie. Tu boli ešte v 60. rokoch 20. storočia nájdené okovy a reťaze, ktorými boli väzni kedysi pripútaní za ruky a nohy k múrom. The premises of the Renaissance palace are newly accessible from October 2023. The first mention of the Hukvald castle dates back to 1285, its origins go back to about the middle of the 13th century. The German counts of Hückeswagen are considered to be the founder of Hukvald. The first of them, the knight Arnold of Hückeswagen, came to the Czech lands at the invitation of the Czech king Přemysl Otakar I. to mediate the marriage of Přemysl's daughter Anežka with the English king Henry III. In the end, the wedding did not take place, but Arnold remained in the diplomatic service of the Czech monarch and received from him territory in the northeast of Moravia. And it was probably here that one of Arnold's descendants founded Hukvaldy Castle sometime after 1250. The best-preserved building in the castle is the chapel of St. Ondreja, built at the end of the 17th century. The chapel was the only building in the castle that was restored and maintained in the 19th century. It is dedicated to the patron saint of the local region, St. Andrew. The chapel has excellent acoustics, which is why all kinds of concerts and performances are held here. They are also organized in the so-called log or motte, which is actually an advanced fortification, probably built sometime during the 15th century. In the past, a military garrison was based here and a serf prison was also located here. Here, in the 1960s, shackles and chains were found, with which prisoners were once chained by the hands and feet to the walls.
