And so, every year, this festival is celebrated to mark their holy union. ******************************************** Difference between Mahashivratri and Shivratri : Shivratri occurs on the 14th day of each month on the Hindu calendar. There are 12 shivratris each year. Mahashivratri is considered the most significant of shivratris, which occurs once a year, between February and March. ******************************************** Rituals For Mahashivratri Some of the common rituals performed during Maha Shivratri include fasting, staying awake all night, offering prayers and offerings to Lord Shiva, and chanting mantras dedicated to him.
