2023 Genesis GV60 vs Hyundai IONIQ 5 // DID WE MAKE A MISTAKE?

The new Hyundai Ioniq5 is so good that not only did it win the World Car of the Year Award but also World EV of the World. It's so good that we even bought our very own. When we found out the new Genesis GV60 Performance was available, we couldn't wait to get our hands on the more powerful and luxurious EV sibling and compare it against the Ioniq5. Although based on the same EV dedicated E-GMP platform, both cars couldn't be anymore different which really surprised me. First off the Ioniq 5 has is longer with a longer wheelbase, its also taller and has more interior and cargo room. We found the Ioniq5 also offered more utility with the sliding middle console (available on the Limited/Ultimate Trim) and also offered a more versatile rear Caro area with the siding rear seats. The GV60 Advanced shares the same powertrain which is composed of a 160kw motor at the rear and a 74 kw motor at the front which is identical to our Ioniq5. The GV60 Performance that we're testing has two 160 kw motors upping the horsepower from 320hp to 435hp which can be temporarily increased to almost 500 hp with a press of the Boost button which is quite the thrill. Its like hitting a turbo button on a video game. The extra power comes at a cost of a reduced range of 378 kms or 235 miles. The GV60 also offers an E-LSD as well as an electronically controlled suspension with road preview. I'm really quite impressed and surprised at how different they drive. I was kind of expecting the GV60 to just be an Ioniq5 with nicer materials and different styling. That part is true with quilted Napa leather, massaging seat, Bang and Olufsen audio, but the drive itself is completely different and I feel like I want one now however all the extras do come at a cost and for most without deep pockets, the Ioniq5 will still be the best bet however if you want a more premiumEV product with outstanding performance and comfort, look no further, the GV60 has your name all over it.
