Xinyang, known as Yiyang and Shenzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, located in central China, the southern part of Henan Province and the upper reaches of the Huai River. The city has a total area of 18,900 square kilometers, with 2 districts and 8 counties under its jurisdiction. According to the 7th census, Xinyang has a resident population of 6.186 million and an urbanization rate of 51.14% as of 2021, with a regional GDP of 306.496 billion RMB in 2021. Xinyang is located between 113°45″-115°55″ East longitude and 30°23″-32°27″ North latitude, and is a geographical and climatic transition zone between the North and South of China and a cultural fusion zone between Henan and Chu. The terrain is high in the south and low in the north, and is a terraced landscape with a variety of shapes and forms; it is a transitional area from subtropical to warm temperate zone, with obvious monsoon climate. Located in the core area of Dabie Mountain Revolutionary Old Area, it is known as the "cradle of the Red Army and the hometown of the generals".
