We spent the day at Massy Motors with the all new Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid and left thoroughly impressed. The drive is smooth and silent, there is more than enough power when you sink your right foot into the mat. The Ioniq has a 1.56 kilowatt hour (kWh) battery and 32 kilowatt (43 horsepower) motor mated to a 1.6-liter, 104 horsepower GDi engine. The DCT shifts smoothly and allows you to easily up-shift and down-shift giving you a very sporty feel for spirited driving, or you can simply leave it in automatic mode and enjoy the drive. The cabin is packed with features usually only found in more expensive vehicles. The fully loaded we tested had everything from ventilated seats to lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors and even wireless charging for your mobile devices. Did we mention it's silent? It's quiet, i mean like a whisper, until the petrol kicks in at about 40-50kmph and then it drives and responds like a topics gosling engine except the electric motor kicks in occasionally to give you an extra boost. The driving experience is seamless. The vehicle switches between electric and petrol on the fly and there are no switches or buttons to fiddle with. The electric hybrid battery recharges when you brake and decelerate, so there is no need to plug the vehicle in or think about anything but enjoying the drive. 7 Air-bags are standard along with a 5 star safety rating. As far as warranty and servicing, the Ioniq share the same 3 year/100,000km warranty found on all Hyundai's locally and also enjoys a 10 year warranty on the hybrid battery. All service techs at Massy have undergone significant training on the new hybrid system so you can rest assured that your vehicle will be serviced and kept running smoothly and silently for years to come.
