Shit Game Time Reflushed 10: "Outrun" (Sega Game Gear) - 28 September 2024

My first video of a Game Gear game - tonight's SGTRF is "Outrun" on said handheld console, released in 1990 in Japan and a year later (1991) in the rest of the world. It wasn't quite the Game Boy-killer Sega hoped it would be, but it was a modest success with its full-colour display and more ergonomic landscape layout as opposed to the Game Boy's squashed portrait layout, its main weakness being its fluorescent backlight which acted as a vampire for your poor batteries (although this could be mitigated by replacing the fluorescent lamp with a white LED). Is this the worst version of Outrun since the Amstrad CPC and Commodore Amiga versions, or will I remain surprised? Let's find out together. Recorded on 28 September 2024
