Women of Diversity Productions The Women Who Saved History Podcast Premiere

The premiere podcast panel for Women of Diversity Productions Inc’s “The Women Who Saved History” - A Podcast Celebrating the Nevada Women Who Preserved Our State’s History was held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the West Charleston Library Lecture Hall, 6301 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146. The mission of Women of Diversity Productions Inc (WOD), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, is to enhance the lives of women and, therefore, of society by giving visibility to women & creating a woman-appreciated future. Our programming began in 1992. “The Women Who Saved History” is a monthly 30-45 minute podcast focused on telling the stories of the many women who have dedicated their lives to preserving the history of the Silver State. Currently, there have been 19 women throughout the state that we have identified, including eight deceased women. Many of our historical institutions are the outcome of their work. Acknowledging these women has long been overdue. We are excited to celebrate them and their accomplishments with our first podcast series. The panel will be comprised of Women of Diversity Productions Inc Board of Directors: Su Kim Chung, historian and conceiver of the podcast, Denise R Duarte, WOD President, Claytee White, oral historian and Erica Vital Lazare. They discussed WOD’s 30 year history and its evolution from an academic journal publisher to documentary/video producer to podcast producer. The panel will discuss the need to recognize these women, the value of these women’s contributions to our known history of the state and the importance of history in contemporary society. Erica Vital-Lazare will be moderating the panel. This episode will be recorded and included in the podcast series which will span from 2024 -2025. The work of the women we will be recognizing includes preserving history, originating traditional archives (documents and photographs), museum artifacts, oral histories, writing histories of the state, preservation of historic sites and landscapes, serving as an advocate for history and the teaching of history in the state. This program is funded in part with support from Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities. In addition, we thank Caesar’s Entertainment for their sponsorship of this podcast series. Without these sponsor’s support, this podcast would not be possible.
