Born and raised in the UK, Richard's passion for food saw him start as a chef, discover a fascination with winemaking and eventually become an internationally accredited Master of Wine in 2011. In 1999 Richard settled in South Africa and worked at Mulderbosch Vineyards, Nelson Estate and Kanu. He established Richard Kershaw Wines in 2012 to create clonally selected, site-specific, cool climate wines in the Elgin Valley. Richard Kershaw Wines has produced a stable of award-winning wines focused on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Richard joined the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2021. In the members, he has found kindred souls who love drilling into the nuances that define exceptional winemaking. Richard sincerely appreciates the Protégé Programme, which equips upcoming young winemakers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the industry.
