Rain Bomb: See This Crazy Natural Phenomenon | PicBusters

On August the 18th, 2011 the residents of San Tan Valley, Arizona were sure the end of the world had come; that afternoon an overwhelming and unprecedented storm had brewed in a matter of seconds. It was an extremely rare but globally recurring weather phenomenon that visited the inhabitants of San Tan Valley, a so-called Rain Bomb. There are dramatic scenes like these mobile phone pictures: a father and son barely able to keep themselves in their house. In 2015 extreme weather photographer Gerald Ferguson succeeded in capturing this natural drama with his camera: a rain bomb in its full splendor. Our PicBuster is the most spectacular photo ever captured from a rain bomb but as fascinating as this weather phenomenon is, it is also very dangerous. Rain bombs usually occur in hot summer months, particularly during thunderstorms; falling winds can suddenly reach tornado speed and this is in combination with enormous rainfall. The impact on the ground can then result in floods that can reach up to 155 miles per hour.
