Archive and Retrieve Project in Different Versions of TIA Portal

► Archiving the project in TIA portal or SIMATIC Manager provides an easy way to reduce the size of the project and consequently transferring or sending the project. The archived project includes the entire folder structure of the projects. The procedure of creating the project archive is simple and the same in all versions of TIA Portal (from V10.5 to currently version V18). In TIA Portal, click the "File" menu and then select the function "Archive". Project archives have the file extension ".zap[version number of the TIA Portal]". For example, the project created with TIA Portal V14 has the file extension "[Assigned name]. zap18". In contrast to project archive, retrieving extracts the project to edit or download. You can retrieve an archived project in TIA Portal with original or later version. For example, you can retrieve archived project with file extension "[assigned name].zap14" in TIA V14, V15, and later versions. The difference is seen in retrieving procedure regarding the version number of TIA portal. For TIA portal with version number earlier than 16, you can see the function "Retrieve" in "File" menu in TIA Portal. However, the function are not available for V16 and its later versions. To retrieve you should use the function "Open" in file menu.
