When the Hubble Space Telescope launched, one of its main goals was to learn more about our incredible universe. Using Hubble, astronomers have learned more about globular clusters. Globular clusters are stable, tightly gravitationally bound clusters of tens of thousands to millions of stars found in a wide variety of galaxies. The intense gravitational attraction between the closely packed stars gives globular clusters a regular, spherical shape. In this video, Dr. Ken Carpenter explains just how amazing these objects are.
