Coach Zach demonstrates how you can release the anterior tibialis muscle in front of the shin in order to get rid of the dreaded and fairly common shin splints. Shin splints cause a throbbing ache along the front of your shins. Medial tibial stress syndrome or "shin splints" is a common lower leg injury, especially with runners. Repetitive stress causes the muscles, tendons, and connective tissues along your tibia to become inflamed. Flat feet, lack of proper warmups, and doing too much too soon can lead to this overuse injury. Wearing proper foot apparel, thoroughly warm up, and gradually increasing workout volume can help mitigate this problem. Thankfully massage can be a big help too!
