Thyroid Ultrasound Probe Positioning | Transducer Placement, Scanning Technique USG

Thyroid Ultrasound Probe Positioning | Transducer Placement, Scanning Technique USG Patient Position: Have the patient lie down on their back with a pillow under the shoulders to extend the neck, exposing the anterior neck region. Probe Selection: Use a high-frequency linear array transducer, typically in the 7-12 MHz range. Probe Positioning: Place the probe transversely over the thyroid gland, starting at the level of the cricoid cartilage. The indicator on the probe should be directed towards the patient's right side. Image Orientation: In this view, the right thyroid lobe will be on the left side of the screen, and the left lobe will be on the right side of the screen. Scanning Technique: Slide the probe laterally to examine each lobe, and move up or down to view the thyroid gland in successive transverse sections. Probe Positioning: Rotate the probe 90 degrees from the transverse position, so it's parallel to the patient's long axis. The indicator on the probe should be directed towards the patient's head. Image Orientation: In this view, the superior aspect of the thyroid gland will be displayed on the left side of the screen, and the inferior aspect on the right side. Scanning Technique: Slide the probe up and down to examine the full length of each thyroid lobe. You can also tilt and angle the probe to obtain a more detailed view of the gland and surrounding structures.
