BSS AR-133 Tutorial - Phantom Power Mod

Hey! This tutorial video shows you, how to execute the "Phantom Power Mod" on an BSS AR133. What is this mod? First, you can do this mod in two ways: THE FIRST ONE: Resulting in that the power switch (On-Off Switch) of the BSS AR133 doesn’t affect the phantom power input anymore. THE SECOND ONE: The BSS AR133 have the power switch shorted out of the whole circuit. This results that the di box is ALWAYS TURNED ON, which also means, if you have a battery plugged in, the box will drain it’s power constantly. This means that regardless of the power switch turned on or off, phantom power will activate the DI box. The BSS AR 133 is one of the most used D.I or direct injection box for stage and studio use. While its moderately priced, especially for homerecording enthusiasts, it´s just built like a tank! ---- This mod is also mentioned in the manual of this DI Box, but I haven‘t found any tutorial on how to do it. So here we are! ---- This is how I understand and did the mod from reading the pcb plan. It works for me like intended but I don‘t guarantee for this to work 100%. so be aware that you perform at your own risk. Be sure that you want to perform this mod as you can also send your device in to a specialist from bss as stated in the manual. --- So now that we‘ve covered what this mod does to your bss ar 133, lets look at what you need to perform this mod yourself You will need a normal to big size screwdriver aswell as a smaller one as we are dealing with two screw sizes. Up next a soldering iron with its fitting stand aswell as solder. Then you will need a sharp knife like this one or even better a box cutter. And last, this is optional, but if you want to be sure that everything works correct, is a multimeter or something else to check the connections we will solder together and break. HOW TO DO THE MOD: First we have to unscrew 14 screws in total to open the DI Box. make sure to use the bigger screwdriver as its way easier to unscrew them with that one and not ruining the screws. There are two more screws located at the output xlr. These are smaller screws so change the screwdriver Now lay the plate to the side and pull the pcb board out of the metal enclosure. There are two links at the pcb right here next to the battery connections. You have to solder link 1 together. Leave link 2 untouched Turn the pcb around and you will see a connection path from link 1 to link 2. just disconnect phantom power from the on off switch, you want to cut this lane. If you want to do the mod alternative, essentially bypassing the power on switch fully, you instead have to cut the connection of link 2.
