What's a Typical Tibetan House Like in Lhasa? How is the Life living Here? (the life of old Lhasa)

In Barkhor Street, the center of old Lhasa town, there are old Tibetan houses which still the home of many local Tibetans. https://www.tibettravel.org/ I also used to live here, but I moved to the apartment two years ago for the coming marriage with my girlfriend. :) The typical Tibetan house, with a living courtyard in the center, is a communal building with many local Tibetan families living together. The three-story Tibetan house near Barkhor Street that we visited in this video is the home for around 30 Tibetan families. While walking through Barkhor Street, you can see historic Lhasa houses of different colors on both sides. Most of the Tibetan houses have white facades, but some are red. The most special buildings here are the grey ones. The inhabitants here imitate the Sakya Monastery by painting the facades of their houses grey and drawing lines of red and white. These three colors (grey, red, and white) represent the three Bodhisattvas: red represents Wisdom Buddha (Manjushri), white represents Compassion Buddha (Avalokiteshvara), and the dark grey presents Vajrapani. In this video, I’ll also take you to see how local Tibetan residents reconstruct one of the old houses in a traditional Tibetan way. Once you come to Lhasa, you shall not miss a chance to visit the old house in Barkhor Street, which is a wonderful place to spend your time and experience how Tibetan people are living.
