Dr. Karl-Ludwig Kley, Merck Chairman, congratulated Yissum on the occasion of its Jubilee celebration. In 2009 Merck and Yissum formed together Qlight Nanotech, that develops nanocrystals with unique optical properties for numerous applications, including technologies that can revolutionize the mechanism of action of flat panel displays. Its innovative film technology for LCD displays uses unique nanocrystals for reducing energy consumption while significantly improving the color quality. The technology can nearly double the battery run time in mobile devices, and reduce by almost half the energy consumption of TV sets. Qlight Nanotech's film also improves the color quality of the display thus dramatically upgrading the user's viewing experience. In October 2013 Merck and Yissum have announced that Qlight has achieved a technological milestone, that includes demonstrating feasibility of the technology that improves the color range of flat panel displays, and improves energy efficiency which can improve the battery life of mobile products while empowering the user's viewing experience. This positions Qlight nanotech in a global technical leadership position in its field. The announcement was made at the opening of the new site of Qlight at the Edmond J. Safra Givat Ram Campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the presence of a senior management delegation from Merck headed by Dr. Bernd Reckmann, Member of the Executive Board, and in the presence of Mr. Nir Barkat, Mayor of Jerusalem, and Prof. Ben-Sasson , Hebrew University President and other dignitaries.
