History Happy Hour Episode 59: Nazi Art Looting

This week on History Happy Hour: Bruno Lohse was one of the most notorious art plunderers in history. He helped organize the systematic theft and distribution of more than 30 ,000 artworks, taken mostly from French Jews. He also helped direct the cream of the crop to Nazi Reichsmarschall Herman Goering’s massive private collection. And his activities didn’t stop when the war ended. Historian John Petropoulos spent a decade interviewing Lohse, seeking to understand his role, finding him both engaging and repelling, and eventually becoming part of Lohse’s story himself. Host-historians Rick Beyer and Chris Anderson talk to Petroploulos, author of the new book: "Goering’s Man in Paris: The story of a Nazi Art Plunderer and his World." Nazis, Art, and how to engage with those who have engaged in evil.
