Marwnad yr Ehedydd (Elergy to a Skylark) | Harp Solo | Arr. Tamsin Dearnley, Perf. Angela Boraston)

'Marwnad yr Ehedydd' is an old Welsh melody arranged for lever harp solo by harpist and composer, Tamsin Dearnley. It translates 'Elergy to a Skylark' and is a hauntingly beautiful and simple melody. I did some research about the Skylark : The RSPB website shares this info: ►https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wil... "The Skylark is a small brown bird, larger than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. It is streaky brown with a small crest – which can be raised when the bird is excited or alarmed – and a white-sided tail. The wings also have a white rear edge which is visible in flight. It's known for its display flight, vertically up in the air. Its recent and dramatic population declines make it a Red List species." Knowing its numbers have been in decline somehow makes the piece all that more poignant. The British Trust for Ornothology had this to say: ► https://www.bto.org/understanding-bir... "As a group, these species are amongst our most declining birds, and Skylark numbers have fallen precipitously since the mid-1970s. However, the latest UK population trend indicates a small upturn in this species' fortunes. The Skylark is found across Britain & Ireland and can be heard singing its song on high at any time of the year on sunny days. In the summer months, the song of the Skylark becomes a force of nature" I am encouraged to hear that there is an upturn in the numbers and offer this tune to you to join the force of the closing summer songs of the Skylark.
