In this installation video we demonstrate helpful tips for planning and installing your DekTek Tile concrete deck tiles on a deck remodel or new construction. 1. It’s important to check with local building codes to make sure your footings/foundation is up to code. 2. If you’re remodeling your deck, what type of condition is your existing wood framing in? Is it in good condition and able to last another 30 years or is it in poor condition rotting out and needs to be replaced? 3. What type of installation method works best to install the concrete deck tiles on your project? For elevated decks, the most common install options are the DekTek Tile Sister Joist Method & Sleeper System Method. 4. When you build a deck, make sure your structure is built to code. When building your DekTek Tile deck, make sure the deck is framed to hold our 10.5 pounds per square foot deck tiles. 5. It is important that your ledger board is installed correctly. Absolutely make sure it is fastened and installed to code to avoid a deck failure. 6. When installing the main deck frame, is the blocking required? Yes, it is and the blocking need to be a max of 4ft oc. 7. Planning the tile layout – try to avoid really narrow 1-2” small pieces if possible, as they don’t look as visually pleasing. Install the deck tiles in your preferred pattern. Absolutely be sure to add additional support/bracing under the cut pieces 10” or smaller. Composite or Wood boards are great for transitional pieces for easier installation transitioning from one area of the deck to another, especially when your deck joists are running in different directions. 8. Waterproofing – are you wanting your deck waterproofed? If so, our concrete decking works with just about any secondary waterproof system.
