Pranām 🙏 We had the privilege of hosting my beloved Guru, Dr. Alka Deo Marulkar—known endearingly as Alkatai—in our Pranām series this year. Alkatai is the daughter and disciple of veteran vocalist Rajabhau Deo. Her vocals and compositions reflect a confluence of three traditions: Gwalior, Jaipur and Kirana. Alkatai's mastery over semi-classical repertoire of Purab tradition, and her academic proficiency to analyze and interpret subtle elements in music lend a stamp of authority to her presentation. A prolific composer and an ardent guru, Alkatai is a holistic practitioner of Hindustani Classical Music. At present, she trains talented students from all over the country and USA, in a rigorous Gurukul tradition. In this video, Alkatai presents Raag Puriya.
