Finland’s main adversary was Russia, fighting two localized wars with that nation. The Winter War (1939) pitted them against invading Russians, and the Continuation War (1941-44) saw them allying with Germany to attack Russia. Finland’s allegiance turned towards the end of World War 2 and they found themselves engaged with Germany during the short Lapland War (1944-45).
