On 9 September 2022, more than 200 experts gathered for this SUERF-Baffi Bocconi “Meet the Author” webinar, which marked the publication of Jón Daníelsson’s book "The Illusion of Control: Why Financial Crises Happen, and What We Can (and Can’t) Do About It". The book is highly relevant for anybody interested in financial stability, since it exposes weaknesses of current approaches to predicting and preventing financial crises and explores avenues to improve financial regulation and supervision in the future. Jon Danielsson is director of the Systemic Risk Centre at the London School of Economics. Central aspects of the book, notably endogenous risk, were discussed by Hyun Song Shin, Economic Adviser and Head of Research at the Bank for International Settlements.
