The show’s success even led to three spin-off films: On the Buses (1971), Mutiny on the Buses (1972), and Holiday on the Buses (1973). In addition to his work on On the Buses, Varney appeared in various other television programs, stage productions, and films throughout his career. He was known for his everyman charm and easygoing comedic style, which endeared him to audiences. Despite his fame, Varney remained down-to-earth and shunned the celebrity lifestyle. In his later years, he largely retired from acting, though he made occasional appearances on television. He became the first person in the world to use a cash machine, when he was chosen to withdraw money from Barclays' first ATM in Enfield, London, in 1967. Reg Varney passed away on November 16, 2008, at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy as one of Britain’s most beloved comedic actors.
