RARE APPLE VARIETIES see the trees and fruit. A guided Orchard tour of the Heritage Apple varieties planted in the Orchard at Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk. Many of these rare heritage apple varieties are no longer in commercial cultivation and are only available from specialist nurseries, thanks to the efforts of some dedicated enthusiasts working to preserve them. Across the region, the genetic stock is being preserved in a group of orchards planted over the last 30 years with the goal of maintaining these varieties for future generations of fruit growers. This heritage collection contains many old apple varieties local to Norfolk, including Norfolk Beefing and Russet, varieties unique to East Anglia. The majority of the Orchard at Oxburgh Hall has been planted for around 16 years, but the walled gardens include many much older trees, espaliered on the red brick walled garden boundary walls. It's a charming orchard and this tour was filmed on the 1st September 2020. Oxburgh Hall is part of the National Trust estates in East Anglia.
