Fly Tying the Yellow Hammer Classic Wet Fly Pattern with Matt O'Neal

An easy-to-tie classic wet fly, this pattern is a killer in trout streams throughout the country. As a nymph the Yellow Hammer is thought to have originated in the Southern Appalachian (sometimes called the Yellerhammer). Tied as a wet fly, it's a completely different version-- though yellow remains the prominent color. This pattern can be found in the Federation of Fly Fishers 'Fly Pattern Index.'
