Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, What's Perception After All?, Maria Syldona

http://www.scienceandnonduality.com/ Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, What's Perception After All? Perspectives from Science and Kashmir Shaivism, Maria Syldona, PhD Myriad questions remain unanswered about perception despite decades of scientific research in numerous fields from neuroscience to quantum physics. This leaves many accomplished scientists wondering why key discoveries have not yet been made. Perhaps it's attributable to science's inherently limited perspective on perception -- as a phenomenon relative only to the apparently external, objective world. Kashmir Shaivism (Pure Trika System) is by definition the 'science of man and his world', and in addressing the mundane aspect of perception, potentially holds important keys to continuing scientific conundrums. The scope of the purpose of perception in Kashmir Shaivism is significantly broader than in science. Here perception is seen also as a means of active human evolutionary development that culminates in our living in the state of the Supreme Self as a human being -- our birthright. In addition, this evolutionary process promotes the development of intuitional perception ('direct perception') that produces the 'AHA' moments of creativity that enhance our professional and personal endeavors to make our world the peaceful paradise it was meant to be. Swami Laksman Joo, the last living master of Kashmir Shaivism, once said that the reason the universe exists is purely for our development. This statement implies an answer to yet another one of the major questions of science -- 'Why are we here'? Human psychospiritual development appears to be the reason for our time and experience here on earth. This presentation spans contemporary scientific research in areas including perception and physics, and concepts in Kashmir Shaivism that either parallel those of science or which may point the way to other lucrative avenues for scientific inquiry. Experiential practice aspects of Kashmir Shaivism are also included, reflecting both the sound theoretical and practice arms for which Kashmir Shaivism is known.
