Tattoo Portraits on Fuji Velvia Slide Film - First Look

Exploring Face Tattoos: Fuji Velvia Slide Film Portraits and Commentary In this video, I'm taking a break from interviews to critique and comment on my own face tattoo portraits shot on Fuji Velvia slide film. I dive into a different project where I explore the vibrant world of 35mm slide film photography. If you're familiar with my work, you know I typically shoot in black and white digital, along with some Polaroids. However, I recently decided to give 35mm another shot with my Canon AV-1 and a roll of Fuji Velvia 100. Fuji Velvia is known for its stunning color positive film, producing tiny slide-like photos once developed. Despite recommendations against using it for portraits due to potential weird skin tones, I wanted to experiment and see the results for myself. Over the past months, I've been carrying my analog Canon camera and shooting portraits. In this video, I share my first roll of slide film and provide commentary on the photos. Using a Lobster Holder and a macro lens, I ensured the film was flat to maximize sharpness and depth of field during scanning. Join me as I showcase and critique these portraits, including shots of renowned body modification artists and tattooists. You'll see everything from detailed face tattoos, scarifications, and body modifications to action shots of tattooing sessions. Highlights from the Video: Monki Diamond - Spanish tattoo artist Monki Diamond is featured in several portraits. I captured her at her Airbnb, highlighting the unique lighting and the details of her tattoos and jewelry. Eugenia - Renowned for her scarification work, Eugenia is showcased both in action and in portraits. You'll see her intricate scarifications, including a healed piece on Steffi's chest and fresh work on her face. Garage Sales and Flea Markets - I documented classic sailor tattoos and traditional designs at various garage sales and flea markets. These include detailed shots of old-school tattoos, capturing the history and artistry of these timeless designs. Em and Jaka - Portraits of Em and her boyfriend Jaka, highlighting their striking body modifications and tattoos. The vibrant red dreadlocks and detailed tattoos come alive in color film, offering a fresh perspective compared to my usual black and white work. Krusty Cola - Action shots of Krusty Cola tattooing, capturing the dynamic environment of a tattoo session. I also included a portrait of him looking straight into the camera, one of my favorite go-to poses. Nele - Portraits of Nele, who features tattoos on her cheeks similar to Eugenia. These shots were taken in front of a green background, enhancing the contrast with her tattoos. Hollie's Hood BBQ - Capturing moments at Hollie's Hood BBQ, including a striking chest piece tattooed by Tomas Redrey. These portraits highlight the vibrant community and the detailed tattoos present at the event. Ivy Van Hoek - German tattoo artist Ivy Van Hoek is featured in a series of portraits with her husband David. These images, taken in front of colorful flowers, beautifully contrast her dark tattoos with the cheerful background. This video is a blend of critique, commentary, and a celebration of the vibrant world of face tattoos, body modifications, and tattoo artistry.
