Turning an OLD EYESHADOW palette into a NEW MINI WATERCOLOR palette!!

Turning this tiny eyeshadow palette into a watercolor palette allowed it to become a useful item once more. I had never really felt like I had used this eyeshadow palette enough to justify the purchase but today it was finally was put to good use. I had wanted to create a tiny watercolor palette for use in a small travel/daily art kit and this fits the bill perfectly. Now I will be able to sketch on the go, not only in pencil/ink mediums, but also in paint! I can’t wait to take it for a test run in the real world, too bad it is so cold right now, I will have to find an indoor space by a good window. This was a very fun process. It was satisfying removing the eyeshadow, I worked my brain on deciding which eight colors to use from my stash of watercolor, and finally trying to put together the puzzle of how this could work on the go. The conclusion was satisfying with a solid little palette that attaches nicely to my sketchbook. The addition of a cut sock around my wrist, plus some water, and I am in business. Though I still want to workshop some other water ideas. I have taken a look online and it seems that ‘medium cups’, something I am not familiar with from the oil painting world, also come in smaller sizes. I may have to purchase one to add to this kit. Do you make custom palettes? Have you wanted to give it a try? This is the second custom palette I have made and I was very intimidate making my first one. Turns out, as long as you have watercolour that dries down (I am looking at you M. Graham, since they use honey in the formula) it seems almost foolproof. I was so worried about doing it correctly that I didn’t for a long time. So far I have not run into any problems outside of the honey paint situation. I always use a toothpick to make sure the paint is dispersed to all corners and is completely dry before using. Time to finish editing this video and get to tiny painting on the go! I am lauren. I let a fear of failure, worry about what my work should look like, and possible criticism from others hold me back from working on painting for a long time. I worried what someone would think of me, with no background or education in art, being so presumptuous as to take up space doing art. Although I still feel this way sometimes I have placed less importance on these feelings and more importance on finding joy in my life’s journey. Sharing my art on Instagram and here on Youtube has shown me that the vast majority of people are just trying to do the same thing, and are supportive, act as mentors, or find similarities between our experiences. If you are reading this and feelings of doubt and worry are stopping you from trying something you think you might enjoy, try to silence those voices, even just for a little time. There is such joy in creating art and sharing the journey. I hope you can find/continue to find some joy too :)
