Specifics of LM2574 Step-Down Voltage Regulators The LM2574 series of regulators are integrated circuits that provide all the active functions for a step-down buck switching regulator. The series of PWM controllers help create a step-down DC/DC voltage regulator with excellent regulation characteristics. The output voltage range for the circuits is 4-60V. These devices are available for fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V. Certain categories of the voltage regulators are known for their ability to support wide-range output voltage adjustment. As you see, the device requires a minimum number of external components. We could even say that it functions all by itself. That's why the regulators are so easy to mount. However the microchip itself has a hybrid structure, with a standard PWM controller, fixed frequency generator, power transistor, output gate current limiter, temperature protection circuit and sleep mode. Just imagine - all of this is integrated in one microchip. To create an adjustable version of the regulator, we need to change the connection circuit. The divider consisting of resistors sets the output voltage based on the fact that the reference voltage source inside the microchip is set to 1.23V. The same voltage will be generated on the lower resistor of the divider. The LM2574 microchips are a brilliant alternative to linear regulators. These devices support a substantial variety of input and output voltages. The integrated pulsed PWM controller helps use the microchips for high output voltages without coolers. To compare, a linear regulator for current loads of up to 2A with the voltage drop of 5-9V requires a sizable heat sink, which often creates difficulties for compact mounting.
