Excellent survivor with only a 1 time exterior repaint. This one is in the registry and was sold new at Ford's legendary Itasca Ford. Documented with original invoice, order form, 2 build sheets, window sticker, owner card and more. The owner moved and took the car with him in 1970 to New Mexico, therefore it is a rust free car. Ford named this car after Talladega the Talladega Super Speedway. It was a more aerodynamic version of the Torino meant to give Ford an edge in NASCAR racing. The rules say a certain number of cars were to be made available to the public, about 750 were made total. It did exactly what Ford had hoped, it won 129 Grand National races during the 1969 and 1970 NASCAR seasons. Far more than any other model. This was the first of the aero cars setting the pace for the Superbirds and Daytonas. This was a 1 year only car. It came to a quick end because Ford ended their involvement in racing. EXTERIOR: Ford started with the Torino sportsroof and made modifications to make it an aerodynamic winner. Unique to the Talladega the nose was extended about 6 inches with a flush mounted grill and a more aerodynamic front end. The bumper is actually a rear bumper that they cut, narrowed, V'eed in the center to create an air dam. The rocker panels were reshaped to allow Ford teams to run the race cars an inch closer to the ground while complying with NASCAR rules. It also increased top speed by lowering center of gravity. There were only three color choices available, this one is Royal maroon. They all had blacked out hood and tail panel. This body body is straight from every angle. No rust at all, I believe it has original body panels. The body gaps are precise. The exterior was repainted one time and has a smooth, glossy finish. It has the dual white tape stripe and each side. All original glass. The chrome and trim is all original and shows real well. It has a big letter T emblem on the rear and on each door. The styled wheels are in very nice shape, the tires are over 25 years old which shows that has not been driven much. INTERIOR: Everyone of these made had black interiors with a bench seat and an automatic on the column. It is a completely original interior from the carpet to the headliner and in very nice shape. A tachometer was put in the dash in a factory location. They did drill the metal for two vintage Stewart Warner gauges. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has it's original VIN number matching 428 Cobra Jet motor. The engine compartment also looks very original, untouched condition. It has original radiator, hose clamps, air cleaner, washer bottle etc. The Motorcraft battery is bolted down properly. It features power steering, power brakes and extra cooling.
