A composer created something so hypnotic with so little

Recorded on September 27th, 2024. First movement:    • George Enescu: Piano Sonata No.1, 1st...   Second movement:    • George Enescu: Piano Sonata No.1, 2nd...   5:19 to the end of this movement is unbelievably heavenly. 4-week Enescu streak achieved, let's goooo. This might be wildly surprising, but it's this last movement of this sonata that is the most challenging. Despite the large number of notes sometimes, there's actually so little to work with to drive the music forward and at times, the music becomes very abstract (yet still evocative) so it is truly the interpretational mastery of the performer that keeps it going and brings sense to the passages. The tone also needs to be so delicate at times and timing, in particular, needs to align perfectly to narrate the sequence of passages properly. That's why I pretty much found no recordings (except one) that satisfactorily presents this movement. For the opening, I actually took a bit of inspiration from Enescu's own performance of the opening, though the ambient and static noise of his recording cannot be replicated with raw modern audio recording and kind of makes my performance sound "too clean" which doesn't have the same effect of portraying the Romanian plain at night. For the rest of the piece, it's almost necessary to use amble amounts of rubato to shape and drive the music, otherwise it really drags and has not direction. As well, each passage must be nuanced and subtle in what it's trying to communicate, not just be dazzling or beautiful or passionate; it requires a lot of moderation and constraint. (Also, I tried to compress the raw video for this recording using AI but it kind of destroyed bits of the video and made it look a bit choppy, in case things look slightly out of sync at times.) [DISCLAIMER] If you're unfamiliar with this style of music, I suggest that you go through the description of this previous video for the necessary background:    • Kaikhosru Sorabji: Gulistān (Eric Xi ...   All piano works I've recorded:    • All Full Recordings   At time of recording, Eric is a full-time software engineer working in Big Tech and AI, graduated from the University of Waterloo, Computer Science major. @musicforever60_official on IG:   / musicforever60_official   #piano #music #romantic #enescu
