Transcript: "The white-tailed deer is a versatile animal that can feed on a variety of vegetation and has adapted well to a number of different habitats. It can be found from Southern Canada throughout most of the United States, down through Central America and in parts of South America. It is named after the white-underside of its tail, which it raises when it senses danger. Deer are excellent jumpers and can run up to 30 miles per hour. They use their speed and agility to outrun predators. Males are known as bucks and grow antlers every year beginning in the spring. The antlers are used to spar against other males for the right to breed. Males then shed their antlers in the winter after mating season. The size of the antlers, and the number of points, is determined by several factors including nutrition, age and genetics. Female deer are called does and generally give birth to 1 to 3 fawns in May or June -- about six months after the breeding season. Natural predators include wolves and mountain lions. A decrease in the number of predators along with conservation efforts have led to a surge in the white-tailed deer population. "
