The most infamous King in all of History is Henry VIII. The Tudor monarch is most well known today for his failed love-life and the fact he had six wives, two of which were famously executed within the walls of the Tower of London. Henry was known for being a brutal ruler who oversaw the executions of around 70,000 people within his own country. The people of Tudor England certainly feared their King, who even ordered the executions of his best friends. His fifth wife was Catherine Howard who was only a young teenager when she married the almost 50 King Henry VIII. She was a carefree girl who was not old enough to be the Queen of England, however she managed to get caught up in a huge scandal. Catherine Howard during times when the court travelled around the country met in secret with the King's closest courtier Thomas Culpepper, and allegedly had liaisons instigated by her ladies in waiting. Her history before meeting the King and marrying him was under scrutiny, however to cheat on one of History's most brutal Kings was a huge mistake. Culpepper and Catherine's affair was investigated by Thomas Cranmer the Archbishop of Canterbury, and he then informed the King of what had happened. Henry ordered the executions of Culpepper his former friend and another man Francis Dereham for treason, and also Catherine Howard would meet the same fate. Sentenced to death for adultery behind the King's back and treason, Catherine Howard made her way out to the scaffold at the Tower of London at just the age of around 18.
