The industrial sector is responsible for 30 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and is often cited as one of the hardest to decarbonize sectors due to its need for clean, uninterrupted, and scalable energy; one potential solution to meet industrial electricity and heating needs includes the deployment of new advanced nuclear reactors. Recently, the widely supported and bipartisan ADVANCE Act was signed into law. The legislation aims to accelerate U.S. nuclear deployment and has created exciting new opportunities for companies to contribute to economy-wide emissions reductions and improve environmental conditions in the communities in which they operate. In this webinar, C2ES president Nat Keohane will be joined by Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Ranking Member and original sponsor of the ADVANCE Act, for a fireside chat on her thoughts about the future of nuclear energy policy and deployment. Following that, C2ES industrial policy analyst Tess Moran will summarize key findings in C2ES’s latest paper on advanced nuclear process heat for industry, teeing up a panel conversation with industry leaders. The panel will explore opportunities created by recent legislative successes and address remaining gaps for advanced nuclear deployments across a variety of use cases.
